Fire of 1995
In August of 1995 wild fires
raged out of control and burnt hundreds of acres of Long Island
Pine Barrens. Again Westhampton Dunes provided a front row seat
to this spectacle. For twenty four hours Jeff watched the fire
and smoke fill the horizon.
"It looked as if the world
were onfire, and through the night I watched the flames, surrounded
by a rain of ashes. An erie sunrise followed as light filtered
through the smoke that I could see stretch out around the curvature
of the Earth." Jeff Muhs.
